Welcome to The Akron Cooperative Online

What an exciting time for The Akron Cooperative!  We're experiencing a growing renewal in the Greater Akron Community.

The Akron Cooperative is committed to growing the global urban farming movement in Greater Akron to provide food security for all its residents. Components of the The Akron Cooperative's comprehensive sustainable urban agricultural program include:

Farming on vacant city lots, yards of private residences, churches, schools and local businesses

Hands-on educational seminars on gardening techniques, food preparation and nutritional health.

Special events and partnerships to raise awareness about urban farming.

  • The Akron Cooperative's newest and most visible programs include the management of six community gardens for the City of Akron (Akron Grows), a community garden for the residents of Cascade Village in North Hill and three gardens for The University Park Alliance in the University of Akron corridor.

Building on 30 years of experience in growing the local foods market, The Akron Cooperative was founded in 1980 by Jonathan Miller and other Akron food advocates for the purpose of acquiring and selling organic health foods at competitive prices. Today, it has successfully transitioned to promoting the development of healthy, equitable and sustainable local food systems for the residents of Greater Akron.
